Better Sleep with the Moon: Planetary Remediation of Sleeping Problems

How many times have you heard that “good sleep is the key to a healthy life”? In an era where the pace of life seems to accelerate endlessly, overworking ourselves is the norm and sleeping few hours a night is celebrated as a performance, building a guilt-free relationship to our sleeping needs is hard. In this context, could the answer to our restless nights lie in the sky above us?

Exploring the possibilities offered to us by planetary remediation, this article investigates the benefits of a remedial approach & getting in touch with the Moon in our chart. Let’s dive in! 🌙

The Moon, Sleep Problems and Remediation

First, it’s important to note that struggles with sleep are often multi-factorial: stress, mood disorders, a heavy diet or even conditions such as sleep apnea can all affect your sleep. Scientific research is still actively exploring the intricacies of our brains, and the effects that sleep (or lack thereof) have on us - solutions exist! If you have a sleep disorder or struggle with getting enough sleep, this should be taken seriously: talk to a doctor & get professional help if needed!

The Moon rules maternal figures, the body, digestion & sleep. If our Moon is affected in your chart, this can lead to issues in these area. If you have a Capricorn or Scorpio Moon, if the Moon is in the 2nd, 6th, 8th or 12th house of your birth chart, if she makes a hard aspect (square/opposition) to Mars/Saturn or if you have Saturn and/or Mars in Cancer, this can indicate a higher susceptibility to having issues in these areas — and therefore with sleep. There are several different ways of addressing these, and remediation advice should be followed in accordance with your personal birth chart configurations. An astrologer specialised in remediation can give your more information on this topic!

Top advice for Moon Remediation

1) Try having a light meal before going to bed, and a big one when you wake up. For the light meal, think easy to digest & liquids/mushy: broth, soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes & veggies. It’s funny that we recommend having a glass of milk before bed since milk is lunar! But I’d recommend skipping that if you have digestion issues (have rooibos instead!)

2) Invest in quality bedding. A good mattress, quality bed linen (cotton or silk duvet covers and pillowcases are a good bet!), nice pyjamas you feel at ease in… If buying a good mattress is too expensive, a top mattress can make a world of difference!

3) Block out sensory overload. Too much noise & light can be a big factor of sleep disruption, and some of us don’t do anything about it by fear of seeming fussy. Get curtains that completely block out the light. If not possible, you can cut out large pieces of cardboard & put them in front of your window so that the light of day doesn’t disturb you. Get earplugs. The Moon is sensitive to changes in the environment, so taking care of those will help.

4) Moon talismanic materia. Something that was very helpful for me is the Moon-Neptune talismanic body butter I created. Knocks me out every time & I have interesting dreams! I recommend using it if you want to be completely out & relaxed

5) Avoid wearing red colours or eating spicy/hot food before going to bed, as these symbolise Mars - you can have a harder time falling asleep, and feel restlessness & irritation in your body. Privilege colours like white & silver instead!

6) Complements like magnesium & vitamin D are extremely helpful - and can help with a variety of other issues. I usually take both 30 minutes before bed, and they’re absolutely wonderful for making me feel sleepy. They are also good for cognitive & bodily functions.

7) Cut screen time & exposure to artificial light before bed (at least one hour before is optimal, but 30 minutes is also fine - the sooner the better)! The Moon is the light of the night - exposure to light (solar) can make us struggle to ease into Her realm & into sleep 🌙
