Food, Astrology and Planetary Remediation
I’ve always had some reluctance to discuss food habits and astrology. Food is so essential to, well, not only life, but to our culture, our way of relating to others, and to the taste, scent and feeling of what this brief passage on Earth feels like — discussing it feels like touching on a very tender, soft and intimate part of my humanity.
When I’m away from home, the first thing I notice is the absence of certain familiar foods. No matter how much I’ve travelled, how well I fit into a culture or appreciate where I am, the food I try is so essential to my being, to my sense of individuality and cultural identity, it’s always the most noticeable thing when it changes. This is why, in astrology, food is associated with the Moon. The Moon, in addition to our emotions and sensations, is connected to the “physical”, material part of incarnation — to the visceral, in a sense. It’s our fortune, our allotment, the things we don’t choose but that we’re born into: our body, our family, our country, our luck or lack thereof.
Food, like all things essential to life, is part sacred and part profane. No matter where you go, people will have convictions and beliefs about the “right“ and “wrong” way to eat, to prepare food, to sustain ourselves (just ask me my opinion about bread). Food is sacred, food is comfort, food is fear. Food is lunar. This is why approaching this topic feels so delicate. Planetary remediation is one of these parts of astrology that is closest to the power we have as astrologers: you’re giving advice that can be life-changing to people. It’s astrological magic, in a way. This is why I don’t want to treat astrology and food carelessly, perhaps because they hold so much power, so much magic and intimacy between them.
So I guess that’s why this little preamble is important: take my words with a grain of salt (pun intended). Don’t underestimate the power of planetary remediation and food, and above all do not let gurus and ill-intended people take away your power. If yo have a complicated relationship to food, please keep in mind that no one (not even me) can offer “magic” remedies — and you deserve professional help from health experts. This is intended as a fun, exploratory guide where your let your senses and appetites (your lunar side) take the reigns. I love you 🌙
What’s planetary remediation, btw?
To put it in simple terms, planetary remediation is the art of remedying certain issues in our lives via the intercession and symbolic correspondences of the planets in our birth chart. The planets take responsibility for various aspects of our lives (our families, friendships, health, finances, etc.), and all have different levels of strength. Planetary remediation is the art of assessing these strengths, and of helping the planets to accomplish their purpose. Say you have a “weak” Mars (what I mean by that is that Mars in your chart has little dignity, using the traditional rulership system): you might struggle with assertiveness, indecisiveness, or even with “people-pleasing”. The themes linked to Mars in your chart may also be a problem: if you have a Scorpio or Aries 4th house with a weak Mars, your home, family and roots may be a source of challenges and difficulties.
Planetary remediation can help you with these issues by helping and strengthening the planets that need it. You can also temper and “cool down” overactive planets if needed, but I will talk about that in another article. While there are a TON of ways to do planetary remediation, food is a very simple way to get started and to familiarise yourself with the concept.

Food & Astrology: How Does it Work?
Based on their qualities, each planet is symbolically associated with certain foods: either by temperament (ex: Mars is red, hot and dry, chili peppers are red, hot and dry: it’s a match!), by colour (ex: Jupiter is associated with the colour yellow, so yellow foods like bananas are jovial). You may notice some overlap between the rulership of certain foods and planets. For example, saffron is ruled by both the Sun and Jupiter. Or, food is lunar in general. That’s totally normal, as the list of correspondences is quite long and certain qualities are shared by more than one planet.
This little guide is intended as a fun, informative one: certain placements are mentioned to give you an idea of who/what chart could benefit from these recommendations. Again, I am not a doctor and I strongly recommend seeking medical advice if you need advice regarding your diet and food intake. Let’s dive in!
