Eclipses in Aries & Libra: A Guide Through the Rising Signs

The first solar eclipse of 2023 will go exact on April 20, 2023 at 6:13AM CET. Let’s see what this eclipse cycle means and what it has in store for each of us, based on your rising sign (ascendant)!

A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun & Moon conjoin (New Moon) close to one of the Nodes of the Moon (which are always exactly 180° apart). When the Nodes move through a pair of signs (over approx. 18 months), eclipses happen in the houses of our chart which contain these signs. Eclipses are dramatic, unpredictable events - however, the stories they represent unfold through longer periods of time & are not always spectacular! A good way to understand the themes they will activate in your life is to look at the & houses the Nodes transit in your chart.

The lunar Nodes have been in Taurus & Scorpio since early 2022. However, because the New Moon happens in late late Aries this year, our first solar eclipse of the year is actually already in Aries! This will give you a first taste of the themes which will unfold later. The Nodes will be in Libra/Aries between July 18, 2023 and Jan 11, 2025. Keep this in mind as you read the following interpetrations, as these themes will follow you during this period! This is extra important if Aries or Libra are activated signs (by profection for ex) in your chart, or if you have placements in these signs. Let’s dive in!

• Aries rising (eclipse in your 1st & 7th house):

  Self-awareness and important changes when it comes to your self & your appearance. You are likely to prioritise your needs over relationships in your life at this time.

• Taurus rising (eclipse in your 12th & 6th house):

  Increased need for isolation, potentially moving or travelling abroad. Need to separate yourself from negative influences & enemies, but also of negative work experiences (ex: leaving a job or associative commitments).

• Gemini rising (eclipse in your 11th & 5th house):

  Emphasis on community, desire to make friends & allies. Gaining the support of patrons. This could be accompanied of less creativity or desire to roam freely, and more to contribute to something communal & tangible.

• Cancer rising (eclipse in your 10th & 4th house):

  Expanding your reputation and working towards life goals & ambitions. Desire to extract yourself from your roots & familiar environment to venture into something more worldly & ambitious.

• Leo rising (eclipse in your 9th & 3rd house):

  Getting deeper into esoteric & spiritual studies, going back into higher education & developing a taste for travelling. Topics such as siblings, routine trips, your neighbourhood and flatmates could be disrupted.

• Virgo rising (eclipse in your 8th & 2nd house):

  Getting/increasing a mortgage or loan refinancement is possible, as well as increases in taxes & financial support you provide or receive. Greater spending, decluttering/getting rid of certain material possessions.

• Libra rising (eclipse in your 7th & 1st house):

  Emphasis on your relationships & close people in your life - an exploration of the relational aspect of your life. Decreased emphasis on your appearance & self, and gaining understanding of what relationships nurture you - and how.

• Scorpio rising (eclipse in your 6th & 12th house):

  Emphasis on routines and the repetitive aspect of life: what you have to do for the sake of your own service. Emphasis on service, and awareness of who doesn’t have your best interest in mind. Spending time with your pets.

• Sagittarius rising (eclipse in your 5th & 11th house):

  Emphasis on the creative process, finding joy & pleasure in the things you put into the world. Time spent with children, thinking about what brings you happiness - less interest in developing community or meeting new people.

• Capricorn rising (eclipse in your 4th & 10th house):

  Reconnecting with your roots, hometown and family. Greater appreciation for home life, spending time with plant friends. Less emphasis on career, reputation & visibility, more on the "backstage" side of things.

• Aquarius rising (eclipse in your 3rd & 9th house):

  Learning languages, increasing appreciation for your local environment, the magic of daily life & your neighbour(hood)s. More trips in familiar destination. Less interest in academia, major travel or highbrow studies.

• Pisces rising (eclipse in your 2nd & 8th house):

  Important material gains, gaining better budget & financing skills. Acquiring long-lasting, quality things in your life. Material support which helps you flourish. Becoming the main provider.
