Remediation Through the Houses
After discussing the planets in remediation, we now turn to the houses. In astrology, the houses are twelve divisions of an astrological chart that represent different areas of life. Each house is associated with specific themes, experiences and aspects of human existence. The houses are determined by the Earth's rotation and are influenced by the time and location at which the chart is cast (or, for a person, the time they are born.)
Here’s a wheel of the 12 houses and their signification:
Remediation: a Primer
What is planetary remediation, you may ask? You can read an article dedicated to it here. To put it simply, planetary remediation is the art of identifying what planet or placement is connected to a problem you have, and to act directly on the planet through symbolic subsitution, replacement etc. in order to ease the issue.
For example, say that you keep having issues with passive-aggressive neighbours no matter where you move (and have decided, after some good self-introspection, that you don’t seem to be the annoying one). We look at your chart, and see that Mars in Cancer (the sign of its fall) is in the 3rd house of neighbours. Ah-ah! From time to time, when an activation happens (say, Mars squares your natal Mars), your neighbours act up and start being extremely mean.
Based on your chart, and on the timing of these issues, I would suggest different solutions, all related to other symbols of Mars. For example, starting a martial art class (Mars) in your neighbourhood (3rd house) or donating red objects or spicy food (Mars) to said neighbours or a local charity (3rd house). The idea is that you symbolically substitute an issue here for a less problematic manifestation of it in order to mitigate the issue. As you can see, the method of remediation employed will depend on the planet, house and aspects involved in a certain configuration. You’ve read about remediation for the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, now discover remediation through the houses!

The Houses in Remediation
The way a planet expresses itself and therefore the type of remediation it will need will always be filtered through the sign and house it’s in.
You can think of it as: A. Planet, filtered through B. Sign, expressed in C. House.
The First House
The Self, Identity, Body, Appearance, Personality. Key phrase: “I Am.”
A planet located in the 1st house will express itself through the personality, character and body of the individual. Its characteristics will shine through the entire person, and can affect how others perceive them. Someone with Venus in the 1st can be perceived as charming or sociable, with the Moon in the 1st as joyful and talkative, etc.
Example: someone with Mars in Aries in the 1st house seeks remediation for being perceived as intimidating by others. In this case, Mars is overactive. The remediation suggested would be physical exercise — combines Mars (sports, efforts) and the body (1st house) to take out the excess Mars energy.
The Second House
Money, Possessions, Resources, Sustenance, Security. Key Phrase: “I Have.”
A planet located in the 2nd house will express itself through the possessions, resources and material support of the individual. Its characteristics will shine through what someone has, and how secure they feel with their resources and sustenance. Someone with Mercury in the 2nd can be perceived as cunning and smart with their purchases with their source of income, while someone with the Sun there can be generous and perceive their material security as a core aspect of their life.
Example: someone with Jupiter in Gemini in the 2nd house could be an overspending nihilist, feeling like saving money is pointless since it will be spent at some point. For them, remediation may look like finding a precise goal to save up for, and opening a savings account they cannot touch specifically dedicated to that goal. Thus we work with Jupiter in Gemini (focused, specific goal) in the 2nd house (money & savings).
The Third House
Siblings, Local Environment, Neighbourhood, Education, the Day-to-Day. Key Phrase: “I do”.
A planet located in the 3rd house will express itself through the daily life and experiences of an individual, as well as opportunities to learn. For those who have siblings, they are often the first partners in play, thus providing the first teaching opportunities through play. Someone with Saturn in the 3rd house can be someone who needs a lot of structure and time to learn, while someone with Jupiter there will often teach and learn things through stories, tales, etc.
Example: someone with the Moon in Capricorn in the 3rd house could be a quick learner and have good memory, but struggle to understand directives clearly or to apply them properly. For remediation, I would suggest an alternative learning environment — like Montessori programmes.
The Fourth House
The Home, Parents, Roots, Land, Secrets, Ancestors. Key Phrase: “I originate”.
A planet located in the 4th house will express itself through the family ties, place of origin and home of the native. Its characteristics will shine through someone’s roots, how they connect with their family, genealogy and relationship to the land they live on — the 4th house is where you feel “at home”. Someone with the Moon in the 4th house may need a very cosy, protective environment to feel at home, while those with Saturn in the 4th may feel like a stranger in their own family or lineage.
Example: someone with Venus in Aries in the 4th house could find themselves in frequent conflict with their family or in the home, but still attempting to “keep the peace.” As remediation, I would suggest planting red (Aries) roses (Venus) in or around their home (4th house) and tend to them frequently as symbolic substitution.
The Fifth House
Children, Play, Fun, Creativity, Gifts, Romance, Sex. Key Phrase: “I create.”
A planet located in the 5th house will express itself through the creative impulses of the individual, their children '(if they have any), and the way they entertain themselves and others. Its characteristics will shine through someone’s ability to enjoy themselves, how they use an opportunity to have fun and to create/put something original into the world. Someone with Mercury in the 5th house may be a creative writer or love to make jokes/puns, write poetry or put an emphasis on communication with their children, while someone with Mars in the 5th house may express themselves through action & doing practical things.
Example: someone with the Sun in Aquarius in the 5th house may feel constrained in their hobbies and tastes, or feel a certain rigidity when it comes to enjoying themselves. I would recommend engaging in a highly structured hobby that requires visibility such as method acting to “loosen up” in other areas and overcome timidity.
The Sixth House
Health and Sickness, Service, Work Hierarchy, Enemies, Pets. Key Phrase: “I Serve.”
A planet located in the 6th house will express itself through any misfortune the native may experience (illness, enemies…), as well as in relationships where they are in service of others (service professions, carers, people in a higher social position or higher in the hierarchy), as well as through any pets they may have. Someone with Jupiter in the 6th house may be a carer or work as a therapist/doctor in service of their patients, while someone with Mars there may be steadfast in their sense of duty & know exactly who their enemies are.
Example: someone with Mercury in Scorpio in the 6th house may often find themselves in competitive situations with people they dislike. As a remedy, I would suggest volunteering (6th house) to tutor children or people who need it (Mercury).
The Seventh House
Relationships, Marriage, Partner/Spouse, Other People. Key Phrase: “I witness.”
A planet located in the 7th house will express itself through other people in our lives, and how we behave with them — especially people closer to us, be they friends or romantic partners. Its characteristics will shine through someone’s relationship to others, be it good or bad. Someone with Venus in the 7th house will tend to desire the company of others or compare themselves to them, while someone with the Sun in the 7th house will gain energy from the presence of others.
Example: someone with Saturn in Aries in the 7th house is seeking remediation for their tendency to prematurely throw themselves into relationships that don’t last. As remediation, I would suggest activities that require short interaction with different people, but with precise rules — for example, online gaming, or playing games of chess with strangers in a park.
The Eighth House
Debt, Shared Money/Resources, Partner’s Money, Death, Grief. Key Phrase: “I owe.”
A planet located in the 8th house will express itself through what we owe to other people, and the resources we are willing to share with them. Known as “the Idle Place”, the 8th house is also a place where we may feel stagnant, or in an uncomfortable position (like grief.) Someone with the Moon in the 8th house may feel like they’re constantly providing resources (time, energy, money) to others, while someone with Jupiter there may be with a partner that provides for them.
Example: someone with Mars in Libra in the 8th house seeks remediation because they’re always lending money to others and fight with their partner about money. I would suggest donating money (8th house) every Tuesday (Mars day) to people who have been victims of wars (Mars) to remedy and balance their Mars placement.
The Ninth House
Travel, Religion, Spirituality, Higher Education/University. Key Phrase: “I learn.”
A planet located in the 9th house will express itself through opportunities to learn and expand your horizons; to open your mind through foreign experiences, be they intellectual, spiritual or cultural. Its characteristics will shine through someone’s experiences of the unfamiliar, of new things they are able to study and learn. Someone with the Sun in the 9th house will thirst for knowledge and experiences of the foreign and the divine, while someone with Saturn in this house may feel like their opportunities for learning are constrained.
Example: someone with Venus in Scorpio in the 9th house will seek to connect with different cultures, but may feel like their learning borders on obsession. As remediation, I would suggest connecting with foreigners or travelling to a place they’ll spend a long time researching and learning about.
The Tenth House
Public Image, Reputation, Visibility, Career, Success, Work. Key Phrase: “I achieve.”
A planet located in the 10th house will express itself through the ambitions, achievements and reputation of an individual. Its characteristics will shine through what someone accomplishes, such as achievements in their career, what they realise but also what others say of them. Someone with Venus in the 10th house will be known for their ability to connect others and their cheerfulness, while someone with Mercury in the 10th may be known and praised for their intellect, communication skills and banter.
Example: someone with Jupiter in Capricorn in the 10th house may see their work and achievements uncredited, or may suffer from a lack of recognition of their experience and wisdom. As remediation, I would recommend wearing a yellow sapphire (Vedic remedy) to strengthen Jupiter
The Eleventh House
Friends, Communities, Audiences, Supports & Patrons, Wishes & Dreams. Key Phrase: “I hope.”
A planet located in the 11th house will express itself through the friends someone makes, the communities they’re a part of, as well as their hopes and dreams. Its characteristics will shine through the support someone receives from others, the types of allies they encounter and how they go about realising their dreams. Someone with the Moon in the 11th house will tend to feel right at home and emotionally fulfilled in social situations, while someone with Jupiter there can have philanthropic tendencies.
Example: someone with Mars in Gemini in the 11th house may have flaky friends, or frequently have falling outs/arguments with people in their community. As a remedy, I would suggest donating red items (Mars) like clothing to communities in need (11th house).
The Twelfth House
Isolation, Exile, Enemies, Hospitals, Prisons, the Margins. Key Phrase: “I Contemplate.”
A planet located in the 12th house will express itself through experiences “outside of society”, in its margins: hospitals, prisons, but also far-away lands. Its characteristics will shine through adverse experiences of loneliness and isolation, where the native often has through to struggle to find their place and purpose. Someone with Saturn in the 12th house will feel more at ease in their own bubble away from the world, while someone with the Moon in this house will prefer living abroad, away from their place of origin.
Example: someone with the Sun in the 12th house struggles to feel joy and feels isolated from the rest of the world. As remediation, I would suggest moving (or travelling for a long period of time) to a warmer, sunnier (Sun) country (12th house).
