👑 Alphecca, or α Corona Borealis is the brightest star of the Corona Borealis (the Northern Crown) constellation. It’s a “fixed” star, meaning that unlike other observable celestial bodies, her position doesn’t seem to move from year to year (in reality it does, but extremely slowly). Fixed stars rise & set at around the same time from year to year! Because of this, they were very important to humans from the very beginning of our existence, for all sorts of things: agriculture (deciding when to sow the crops), navigation (orienting yourself with no land in sight!), and many other uses!

💎 Alphecca is a bright, beautiful fixed star known for her gentleness and benevolence — her name comes from the Arabic nayyir al-fakka "the bright (star) of the broken (ring of stars)". The myth associated with Corona Borealis is that of Ariadne, the mythological princess of Crete who helped Theseus escaped the Minotaur. After being abandoned by Theseus on the island of Naxos, Ariadne was found by and married Dionysius, god of festivity, drinking, fertility and vegetation. He gifts her a crown in the form of a garland of flowers or wreath). Eventually, Ariadne passes away (as she is a mortal). Heartbroken, Dyonisus throws the crown he gave her into the firmament, creating the Corona Borealis constellation we know today.

✨ Alphecca is therefore strongly associated with flowers, perfumes and nice-smelling things, reminiscent of Ariadne and Dionysos life of pleasure and festivities in the lush nature of Naxos. There is also a very “social” dimension to Alphecca. She’s a prime star for making friends & meeting new people, or even for reinforcing existing bonds in a very healthy, sincere way. According to Renaissance mage Conelius Agrippa, a talisman made under Alphecca gives “the good will and love of men”. In “On the 15 Fixed Stars”, Hermes says that an Alphecca talisman “makes men chaste, and grants friendship and honor with God and man.” The word “chastity“ may have made you raise your eyebrow. So getting an Alphecca talisman means zero action? Well, in my experience, not exactly. Just look at Ariadne’s example, who braved all injunctions of virginity and patriarchal obedience to her father to help Theseus! Some have argued that this word was mistranslated, and others say that it is badly interpreted. In my opinion, it’s a bit of that and also that some ancient concepts, although bearing a similar names, are sometimes radically different to our modern ones. Historically, chastity was a positive attribute at the time Cornelius Agrippa was writing about it: a virtuous, morally upstanding person was one who didn’t easily follow the desires of the flesh, and above all who controlled their passions and emotions — in other words, who displayed temperance. I believe that the “chastity” of Alphecca should not be strictly understood as “sexually abstinent”, but moreso as discernment. In other words, Alphecca allows those under her influence to rise above their passions, their petty grievances and impulses of the moment to become a more “objective” and fair judge of character. Coincidentally, this is often what makes for great friendships and thriving community: being able to visualise the big picture, to put our ego aside and see people for who they truly are (and conversely, allowing others to see us authentically).

👑 As a result, getting an Alphecca talisman is great for attracting friendship, favour, success but also discernment, meaning that the spirit of Alphecca is helpful to determine who deserves your loyalty, and for attracting meaningful, authentic and long-lasting friendships. Alphecca talismans have an element of chasing away illusions and for facing reality as it is. I would recommend getting this talisman if you’re looking to form meaningful connections and sincere friendship with no flirty or romantic innuendos (unlike the Venus series, which is good for attraction and meeting people but has more of a romantic/sexual component). The conditions is that the tropical degree of Alphecca (12°37 Scorpio) is rising on the Ascendant, while the Moon in Cancer applies to trine it. The Moon is particularly well placed in this election in her domicile of Cancer, and she doesn’t apply to any hard aspects to any planet. Keep your gold-plated silver jewelry shining bright by avoiding exposure to water and chemicals. Regularly polish it with a soft cloth to maintain its finish and store it separately to prevent scratches. Due to the nature of the plating process, the gold plating of some of the jewelry can wear off if worn frequently or exposed to water or chemicals. This is normal and will not affect the potency of the talisman.
